Activation of theme makes site go blank

OK,

Deactivated all plugins... activated the theme, and still blank.

I may have a breakthrough though... wp files are in the home directory, and in the settings bar I have the blog location as /blog

When I remove the homepage index.html, the theme and wp site display fine, but once the index.html is in, I can't get to the blog at /blog.

RESOLVED... I had a folder in the home directory named blog, once I changed the name of that folder, all works well.
