the sidebar is controlled via widgets - and the other code controls the right side areas on your home page. That should be in Revolution theme options in the dashboard.

Your best bet for learning what things are and what they do is to get Firefox, get the web developer extension, and dig into css and then the wordpress codex. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60, http://www.w3schools.com/Css/default.asp, http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page.
