Default One Site...Two Blogs?

Hey everyone -

I am not a professional designer but am trying to learn. I am currently volunteering my services to a few sites including a local parenting / community events magazine so that I can get some hands-on experience using the themes.

The owner of the magazine wants to know if I can create two blogs on the main site (which I will do with either the streamline or lifestyle themes).

One will be a syndicated blog...and one will be local.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance!!!

Traci

Traci,

There are a few options, the best one depends on how exactly these blogs will work, how much content they will have, etc:

1. Set up a second Wordpress install in a subfolder or subdomain of the main site, eg mydomain/blog or blog.mydomain.com
as per these instructions: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs

2. Use Virtual Multiblog plugin to run multiple sites off one WP install.

3. The simplest option - create a specific category for each "blog", then use Page Templates to display these posts differently. If these other blogs are going to be very simple, this may be the best option.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! Yes, that should work just fine. One of the blogs is nationally syndicated so it will be a bit easier than I thought.

Appreciate your help! The purchase of these themes have been well worth it with all of the helpful tips and advice! :)

I am curious about option #3, "create a specific category for each "blog", then use Page Templates to display these posts differently." I don't quite understand how this works.

I tried creating multiple pages and multiple categories, but on the Theme Options page there's only a single choice for Blog Page Template. So I am not sure how to make more than one blog that way.
