The best any of us can do for you is point you in a direction. WAMP is a great tool for development, but only if all your help is in-house.

Every modification you do is a learning experience, but you didn't have to do all that. Removing this line from home.php (and the other files that call it) will remove the sidebars:

page_fullwidth.php does this. Take a look at that file and see how you can wrap it around your homepage content. I haven't tried it, but others have done it successfully. By using this file as a starting point you will cut CSS hacking down to a minimum.
