Default Swapping from themeforest to studiopress

Hi there,

I have limited knowledge on setting up a website. However, I have been able to finally make an up and running site changing the codes of the .php files as opposed to actually using wordpress (I am a total noob).

I have been doing some research and would like to change from my current themeforest theme to using a theme with studiopress. However, due to the nature of my work, I need the site up and running the whole time. Is it possible for me to start a new studiopress themed site, work on it till I'm done, then swap it over, to minimise the down time of my site?

It is probably a stupid question for most of the forum members here, but I appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

It;s actually more a general WordPRess question, since the answer is the same regardless of where the theme came from. :)

There are different methods available to set up a new area for your site then swap it over, but all of them are complicated.

In WordPRess, your design is separate from your content. So as soon as you activate your new theme, all your page sand posts and things are still there. You only have to set up the widgets and maybe fiddle with the menu.

Sometimes I set up a second site to see what needs to be done, get myself familiar with the theme, and then switch themes during a low traffic period.
