Some of my question I found myself so if anyone else is stuck here is the answer. When you go into settings and open reading the menu appears where you can choose a static page for your homepage if you like as I did. What I failed to do was create a new page with a title I liked -it was something like all about your eyes" and publish it empty. Then on the reading page the next box down is the Post Page or where your posts will now go since there is a static front page. Changing that on the pull down menu to the newly created page allows featured content gallery to display there.

I still don't understand how my http://drkisling.com page rank went to 0 while my http://www.drkisling.com page rank stayed at 2 and if this has any significance. I added seo all in one last week and SEO Slugs and a day or two ago deactivated WP GEO. Now I have deactivated the two and reactivated the other wondering if there was any connection. And if I take my static page off and make the home page dynamic again how will it effect my ranking? Are the links really any different since they go to the same place? The static page is not content rich at this point so it seems like it would be not a big change but would any change risk a disruption? I know a page rank of 2 isn't much and not all that meaningful anyway but I don't want to lose what I have.
