hard coding sidebars into custom post type

So i'm tracking my progress here.

So I used this in my single-cpt.php

remove_action ('genesis_sidebar', 'genesis_do_sidebar');
add_action ('genesis_sidebar', 'about_nav');
function about_nav() {
    if (!dynamic_sidebar('About Navigation'));
} 


The thing is, I realized that the navigation encompasses separate pages of various post types, even pages. My first inclination is to target the specific pages in functions.php. Is this a good route?
