Themes are not templates. It is totally different. Templates are HTML based sites that require a solid understanding in HTML to edit. Themes work with WordPress so users that can work in Word will be able to build their site using any of the complete themes available.

There are many free methods for unzipping files. It varies from operating system to operating system. All modern OS actually have built in utilities.
