Setting featured image from URL?

Default Setting featured image from URL?
Can a featured image be set based on an image URL? I've imported my old blogspot blog with hundreds of posts (only 22 published right now) and many more images, but because none of them are in my media library, they do not show in my slider.

Is my only solution to add the images to my media library, and then set a featured image (which sounds like it could be a lot of work!)

I don't think this is specific theme support, but feel free to move...

You could try setting just the featured image, but I suspect that yes - they do have to be part of your media library.

There may be a plugin to handle importing the images for you.

Thanks, Andrea for the feedback. I'm not going to worry too much about it - I'm going to have the featured posts set to just my 10 most recent posts, so the older imported posts will soon not make the list :)
