Default Basic paradigm for child theme customizing

Apologies if this is a stupid question...

I'm using Genesis for the first time, and my paradigm for customizing Child Themes is being challenged.

I create and use child themes all the time when not using the Genesis framework. In those non-framework cases, I create (and modify) ONLY THOSE FILES that depart from the defaults of the parent theme (twentyten, twentyeleven, etc.).

What's the paradigm - recommended workflow - with Genesis child themes? Is it as simple as diving in and making changes to the child's files, knowing that I have the original child them in a zip archive for safe-keeping? Do Genesis child themes get updated ever? (If so, my clone method wouldn't be so good.)

Thanks in advance for your answers - and your patience!

Yes, do that.

Sometimes we do *minor* bug fixes to the child theme. You can patch those in.

Sometimes we have 2.0 versions of some child themes, but treat them as completely new themes that have the same name.

So... continue on as you have been. ;)

Great since the issue is resolved, I'll close the thread. If you have more questions, please open a new thread.
