Default Import Wordpress Content with Images

I've tried using the wordpress tools (import/export) to import posts/pages and images into another site but it doesn't ever upload or attach the featured images to my posts nor does it load into my media library.

Does anyone know a better way to do this?

Did you check the box to make sure it grabs the images?

Are the images still available on the old site?

Have you tried just moving over the wp-content/uploads folder?

I selected the download attachments option (there wasn't an option to select "images") -and that added the images inside the posts but not to the featured image part. I tried copying over the images to the wp-content folder but when i went into the media library in wordpress, it didn't recognize them - do I need to update the path when I do that in the database?

No, the import should physically move the images over. You'd only need to change the path if they were hardcoded in the post content.

Edit the post. CLick the image upload button. The image must be listed in the Gallery tab. Uploading an image while editing your post creates an association in the db whereby WP sees the image as "attached" to the post.

That's the odd thing - the images are not listed in the Gallery Tab when I did the import - but they are in the body of the post. It's strange.

Can I get a link to your site, so I can go look?

THe link in the body of the post is likely linking to the images on the old site.

www.mindschmootz.net/development

I tried to import only the featured category and it said most of those posts already existed, and then it gave me 3 posts, with pictures, but none have pics in the gallery..

1. Why when I try to import that category, it thinks those posts already exist (is it looking at my other site - mindschmootz.net?)
2. How do I start over, import all posts, pages, etc and then change where it's pointing to?

The WordPress importer does a check for posts. If you have run the importer multiple times, it will not import the same post multiple times.

It is not looking at your other installation.

Delete all the posts, etc on the dev site and then run the importer again.

There's numerous ways to switch from dev to production.

Ok, can you look at my site again - i still don't know why the images won't appear in the gallery even though I copied to my uploads folder and they exist in the body of the posts with the updated url?

I'm starting to upload this manually...via media uploader but is there an easy way to attach these to existing posts or as featured images (since the posts didn't upload with the featured image attach?)

They won't appear in the gallery because they haven't been imported.

You can try one of these plugins:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...ternal-images/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...o-gallery-v01/

Please note that none of this is specific to our themes.

Thank you for your suggestions. I ended up using this plugin: https://github.com/c3mdigital/media-tools-for-WordPress which worked great - it attached all my featured images perfectly.

I've been trying to figure out how to add padding to the custom widget that I registered on the home page but I think I am overlooking something obvious. I added this to my css but it doesn't seem to care:

.custom-slider{
padding: 0 0 30px;
width: 100%;
}

Any help is appreciated.
