I wouldn't call it an upgrade, more of a replacement. Just deactivate the old breadcrumbs plugin, install & activate the new one and follow their instructions for inserting the code for the new one into your theme.
Open breadcrumb.php and replace with the new code. Also, see Paul's instructions for modification related to your change of how the path displays.
