Replacing Search Function with Image

I read the thread about how to remove the search function which I will be doing. . . my question is this: I need to replace it with another image one that is large enough to cover most of that side of the screen. What is a recommended size for a banner (It will say something like "Search Thousands of Florida Vacation Homes Here and will link to my search page)and secondly which file do I upload it over to make it show up there? Thanks!

place your link and image in headerright replacing what is currently there
