Voila! Instant Linux hosting?
Hi All,
I've faced a lot of wacky situations developing sites, and have learned by getting a lot of arrows in my back. But here's one that I truly don't know the answer to.
I have a client whose customer has Godummy Godaddy hosting. They are running Windows server, and Wordpress is going along more or less OK (apart from often running very slowly).
My client asked if she could just tell Godummy to "flip the switch" and make the whole thing into a Linux account. And I truly have no idea, but I feel dubious that it will work. Yes, you still have a MySQL database, and the same site files. But I think they (Windows) do permissions funny, and what about .htaccess and all that? I know that my fave Filezilla FTP can't do file permissions on a Windows box, for instance.
I know nothing about Windows servers. Have any of you tried this bizarre conversion maneuver? Right now I'm tempted to just leave the thing alone as long as it runs.
Any advice or war stories appreciated!
Thanks, Dave
