Custom field value with wp_list_pages

Hi,

Is it possible to use a custom field value in conjunction with the wp_list_pages?

I would like to maintain the descriptive title of a page (which is quite long) but would like to display a shorter title in the navigational bar - which is auto-generated by a call to wp_list_pages.

I have been able to do this in some other areas using the get_post_meta calls. But I'd like to know if I can also use this from within the wp_list_pages call?

Hope there is a workaround for this. Thanks in advanced for any inputs.
