Default importing from .com to .org

I need to import a WordPress.com blog onto a Blog "page" on a WordPress.org site. That is, the .org site is a website consisting of several pages, with one empty Blog page waiting for content from the old .com blog. How does WordPress know during the import process to put the posts from the .xml file on the Blog page? I'm concerned it may put them elsewhere and completely mess up the site I've already built. The import plug-in doesn't seem to have any options asking me where those old posts should go. Thanks for any advice!
