301 Redirect

Hi!
I am done creating a Wordpress site using Genesis/Midnight to replace a static HTML site. Old site is http://chi-analysis.com and new site is temporarily on http://chi-analysis.com/newsite/
I know to help maintain page rank that I want to do a 301 redirect from the old site to the new site however, the domain name isn't changing.
What do I put into .htaccess to redirect to the root? I am finding conflicting information on what I should be putting into the file for this to work.
