More Tag

When I use the more tag and when it is inserted in the middle of some formatting like bolding or indent then all the posts below that post on the category page pick up the formatting and everything is bolded, etc. after that post, including the sidebar. So I deleted the more tags and put in a content limit. But I would like to use the more tag to control where I break the post as I would like the formatting and possibly some pictures showing on the category pages. Is there some code that I can add, I would think to the archive.php page, to stop the formatting from being carried forward to the rest of the posts. I hope this makes sense! Thank you.
