How to get started?

Purchased the full set of themes and intend to use the church theme for my project.
How does one get started ? I am totally new to wordpress and themes. I was hoping for some introductory videos and explanation of all the parts/functions a theme. The tutorials are very verbose and the information is in all over the place. Can someone direct me to an appropriate resource where one can learn the basics in a sequential manner.
