using FCG with other home page texts

I'm using Featured Content Gallery. Works great.

Is it possible to display text OTHER than the text that is pull from the start of each of the Featured Posts? perhaps via a shortcode?
or reduce the amount of text that is displayed?

Any assistance or direction is appreciated. thanks.
