Changing catagory names..

Hi again,

Will my links or posts be affected if I change the name of a catagory?

I DO NOT USE ID's I have it seet to perma-links..

I want to change the name of the catagory "SD coastal South Stats" to something different, basically just droping the "south" of of the name.
