Thumbnails not working correctly

Hi,

I am using the custom-fields to enter thumbnails into my post listing on the homepage, but the images are staying at their normal 'larger' size?!
So as you can imagine the homepage looks a mess with large images everywhere!

I cannot seem to solve this problem, I do not want to crop each image before posting.

Any help on why the images are not cropping into thumbnails would be appreciated.
