Thumbs To Blog + Additional Featured Page

1) I'd like to have the same thumbnails that show up on the featured page to show up on a the category page. Is this possible? If so is it as easy as cutting and pasting some code or what? http://www.thecrossfade.com/music

2) Is it possible to have more than one "Featured" page per site?
For example: Let's say I have 3 different category pages, one is shoes, two is hotdogs, three is worms. They are all completely different things, and I'd like to treat them as a mini-site within my original domain - having the 'shoes' category page look similar to the index page. Am I going to have to treat them like 3 separate blogs and install wordpress on 3 subdomains, or is it possible to accomplish this another way?
