unhappy with genesis

I'm feeling a bit disappointed with the amount of customization that can be done to genesis w/o edited the css/php and all the other stuff I know nothing about. I can't even make basic changes that are available in free WP themes. Honestly, I feel like these options were left out simply to entice me to purchase more child themes and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The whole point of a WP theme is to make it more user friendly for people like me. I suppose the child themes work well for some, but it simply doesn't make sense to leave out basic design customization abilities, people would still purchase the child themes if those options were there.

Not happy with my purchase and voicing my constructive criticism... that is all... not expecting anything other than to be able to do so. Everyone on the forums is very helpful and I mean to offend no one, but I've dropped a couple hundred dollars on the framework and child themes so I feel I have the right to voice my opinion as a customer, consumer, and blogger.
