Default Text editor VS IDE?

This is kind of a water cooler question, but I really want to see what people use. I want to start to get into much more advanced programming on the web, PHP, jQuery & eventually Rails, but this question applies more to PHP & jQuery.

I have used all sorts of text editors, one of my favorites being Notepad++ (simple yet elegant, especially with the new FTP stuff). But I have recently discovered Sublime Text 2, and like it as well, I enjoy the huge array of syntax highlighting and code completion.

I have also used IDEs, most notably Dreamweaver (a PseudoIDE), Eclipse, NetBeans & I dabbled with ZendStudio. I know Dreamweaver has some build in WordPress functions, but I am straying way from it.

What are your guys thoughts? I'm looking to get more and more into theme development, and back end development & would appreciate anyone's input.

Thanks
Zach
