Default Caching plugins for Genesis

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I recently put my Genesis site into production and it started falling down under even mild loads. It turns out that each apache instance is using 20-60MB of memory, because it's invoking PHP, Wordpress, plugins and querying the database.

I'm looking to install a caching plugin and wanted to see what people recommend. The two most widely used caching solutions seem to be WP Super Cache and W3 Total Cache.

W3TC hasn't been updated since 2011, but seems to be more comprehensive with more tuning options.

WPSC seems to be more frequently updated and easier to use, but not quite as powerful.

Can anyone recommend one or the other? Does one play well with Genesis?
