Newbie question: Genesis and WP

I just purchased genesis and a theme and I was under the impression that I could just use my existing wordpress account. When I click on "appearance" and then look for "install theme", that isn't an option. I see themes - which I've clicked on - but there isn't a way to "install new theme".

Please help - I'm SO lost and I thought I could follow the directions. Do I need to upgrade my WP site?

Never mind...I got my answer. I wish it were made more clear before purchasing. I'm a true newbie and thought I could upload the theme to the basic wordpress.com site...and that's not true.
