new post creation causes weird behavior

I have a live client website, http://www.matthaag.com, and I'm trying to set up a featured page to ultimately become the home page. I've created categories, and a featured page using the proper template (it's exclueded from the navbar, but it's at http://www.matthaag.com/?page_id=209). When I go to add a post, the create/edit screen opens. Any effort to actually add content on that screen causes the page to flip to this URL - http://www.matthaag.com/wp-admin/post-new.php - and a screen that looks like the attached jpg. The browser then says the page is loading, indefinitely.
