Homepage Title Tag

Hi, I am using a custom theme running on Genesis with a static homepage.

I would like to format my homepage title tag like this: Site description | Site name. Currently, I can only get it to appear as: Site name | Site description.

Using this page as a guide, I checked the first box, "Append Site Description to Doctitle on homepage."

I then chose "Left" for where to append the text, but I cannot get the site description to appear first. I tried appending to the right just for the heck of it, but nothing changed. When I chose to append the site name to the inner pages (the second box), the left/right options do indeed work. The homepage just seems immune to them.

Any help is appreciated.
