Default How to make simple changes to child theme?

I'm looking to move my sites from Thesis to Genesis and and trying to learn a bit more about this framework.

In Thesis, if I needed to add something just under the blog post title, I would add that hook to my PHP file and then add the necessary code that I needed.

I've gone through the Genesis manual that I found and feel it is quite involved. Is there a simple guide that would show me how to make these kinds of changes. I need to be able to ensure that I can make basic changes before spending money, only to find out the framework is a little to involved for me.

Thank you
