Accessing theme to input info without publishing

Is there any way for me to add info and pictures to a theme and view it without it being published it on the net? I need to move info from a static website in to a wordpress site, but don't want to publish the theme online, until I've customized the theme and populated with data. If I can view and work on the theme, before it become "live" that'd be great! Thanks for your help!
