Getting Flash/Video to appear on the homepage

How do I get a video to appear in a category post on the homepage? Right now, if I add the embedding code to a post, it looks fine on the post, but I get funky coding on same post on the homepage. Is there a plugin for this? Same for slideshows from Flickr.
