My own community / Social Media

Hi,

I was wondering if I could get some advice on this one.

I don't know if this is really the right place for this, but I'm guessing that someone here knows what I'm looking for.

I want to create my own niche community with Social Media and forum capabilities.
I want to use Wordpress for this and of course a Studiopress theme.
I've been looking for a solution for this case and stumbled upon BuddyPress.

Does anyone know if this is a good solution for what I want to accomplish or does anyone have a better solution for this?
