Home Page, Blog Page, WP's Admin:Reading & breadcrumbs
[note: I had composed most of a request for info, then I figured it out, and turned the Q into a Q & A, in case someone else wants to know the same thing....]
I would like to get a consistent breadcrumb schema going for a site w/ a non-blog home page.
Here's what I did:
I created a page (Home) for the home page. I created another page (Blog) for the blog page (assigned the template Blog, using the template file page_blog.php).
In the WordPress admin Settings > Reading, I set Front Page displays [X] A static page.
I selected the respective pages from the two pop-up menus for Home Page and Posts page.
Result, on blog page: No breadcrumb trail at the top. At all.
If I tweak the WordPress admin Reading settings so that posts page is set to - Select - (i.e., no posts page is selected), then I can give my blog a name (hardcoded into the page_blog.php template) and the breadcrumbs show:
HOME > BLOG. I like that.
However, when I load up an individual blog post page (which, I learned, uses the template file index.php), the breadcrumb omits the > BLOG > segment...
What I want to have:
Blog landing page has this:
HOME > BLOG
and individual post is
HOME > BLOG > SOME CATEGORY > POST TITLE
. . . . .
I just figured it out!!!!!!!!!
Change the permalink structure so that there's a directory called blog...
And that fixed it. :) :) :) :) :) :)
So I'll go back to my Alternative Attempt (above) and continue on....
