Featured Content Gallery - text only

My site is focussed on text articles and thus the Featured Content plug doesn't want to diaply a box full of text - which is what I would like.

Here is what I have in mind. I would like a featured content type plug-in that displays featured articles that are text only that works (more or less) with Rev Mag theme.

If anyone has some pointers, then unending thanks will be upon your house.
