Default Addressing Images Directory From Content Area

I'm trying to create an online newsletter via the stylesheet in the content area of a page. I placed the code in the "Content" area of the stylesheet and that's working fine. I for some reason, the GIF image I'm calling in the HTML on the page won't show the graphic:

<div align="center" class="centered_masthead" id="masthead">

<div class="blue_rule"></div>
<div class="masthead_textleft">Sales and marketing tips for the Capital Markets</div>
<div class="masthead_textright">Third Quarter, 2009</div>
</div>

Am I not supposed to access graphics in this manner from the page? Do I have to go through the uploader image gallery doodad?

Thanks in advance.
