Switch the sidebar to the left

Default Switch the sidebar to the left
I want to make the site navigation on my streamline site to look more like a traditional website navigation.

I have read the forum and have read several places that if you switch the float on the sidebar and content area it will switch the sidebar to the left.

I played with it for a couple hours this morning and finally was able to the sidebar when viewing a post page to move to the left, but the post was then completely underneath the sidebar and still floating left.

I was never able to make any changes that actually affected the homepage layout. Any ideas or hints to make this happen for the streamline theme?
