Excerpts disappeard

I installed a couple of new plugins.
One of them had a problem and caused a re-directing problem.
The Hosting Comany deactivated ALL the plugins instead of just the ones installed by renaming the plugin directory.
After assigning the proper name to the plugin directory and activating the deactivated plugins I now have the problem though that ALL of the excerpts on the HOME PAGE don't show, leaving instead the comment "Read more"

I've checked the content_limit and its still set at 80...so nothing has changed there.
Can you help?
