Removing banner ad from header

I tried to remove the code from the html code in the WordPress back office, but when I did, nothing happened. It still remained the same. Is there something else I need to do in order to remove the banner ad from the header in my blog? I do not have coffee cup, and I'm currently using WordPress to personalize my blog. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
