Featured Content Gallery Load Time

I've been working on some site load time optimization for a site utilizing the Streamline Theme. I've found the the Featured Content Gallery is having a bit of an log jam. (particularly the jd.gallery.js.php and jd.gallery.css.php have considerable load times.... 1000 ms to 1500 ms). I'm only using 3 images that are about 60 K each, which is not too heavy. The load times on your Demo Streamline Theme are much faster at around 500 ms. I've searched around the FCG forum and found several other people having the same problem, but with no suggested solutions. Have you guys tweaked your code to get the faster load times? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
