Default Creating Additionl Homepage Layout Divisions

This question applies to newer versions of Church, Lifestyle plus some of the latest themes that are now relying on the theme settings panel in WordPress to set up the homepage and assign categories to particular layout divisions.

With the earliest versions of Church and Lifestyle before the special settings panel was added you could create new layout divisions for particular categories of blog post simply by copying the code for one of the existing divisions and assigning it a specific category to it. You also assigned categories to existing divisions by making changes in the code on the homepage.

With the new versions of these themes which rely on the theme settings panel to assign categogires, what will happen if you try to create new divisions manually. How can you assign categories to a new layout division based on a copy of an existing division? What code change would you need to make to assign a specific category to a new division? How will you change the code which makes a call to the settings panel to assign categories?

Here is a blog which is still uisng Lifestyle 10 and has no settings panel. Assume that I want to copy the bottom division of the homepage and use it to create a new division below it using a different category assignment. How would this work with a newer upgraded version of this theme that uses the settings panel instead of page edits to assign cateogories and numbers of posts? Is it even possible in the latest version to easily and simply create new divisions based on the code in existing divisions?

If adding new divisions with new categories is still possible, I suspect there needs to be a code change which would replace the code for automatic assignment of categories and numbers of posts from the theme settings panel with a simple statement of the category and number of posts on the edited homepage.

Thanks for any help with this question.
