Default Background Image not visible - all white instead

This must be a simple fix as it seems that I have the right code from similar support q's. But, when I changed the {body} - all I got was a white backround. Here's the code I've added:

body {
background: #000000 url(images/bg1.gif) repeat-x left top
width: 980px;
color: transparent;
font-size: 12px;
font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Verdana;
margin: 0px auto 0px;
padding: 0px;
}

Site is www.daytripplans.com

Thanks in advance,
Don
