Using the category/tag gallery with a different link

Hi,

I use the thumbs below a category to show all thumbs of this category and below a selected tag likewise. If you click on a thumb, you end up at the page where you can leave the commentary. What would be more logic is to stay within the category/tag archive and just switch to the selected picture instead.

Any idea how this can be realized?
