Breaks & Paragraphs not working for me

Hello, I checked the forum & couldn't find exactly the answer I was looking for. Tried some of the suggestions already, so i figured I would post now. I am editing a Page, I went in the css & made sure the padding was indicated in the code. See below.

.postarea p {
padding: 0px 0px 10px 0px;
margin: 0px;
}

Perhaps that isn't the right area as as soon as I use

in the html section & update the code is instantly disappearing. I know I read something about html being striped out of the homepage & to delete a line of code, but I couldn't isolate that with the pages. Can someone direct me in the right direction on this.
