Default Hard Code or Widgets?

Just curious whether it makes better design sense to code my side bar widgets in sidebar.php or use the sidebar widget in my WP admin console?

Honestly, I'd rather use the sidebar widget plugin to manage my sidebar to avoid having to tweak code, etc. when updates are rolled out. But, I think I have some code there that may not be able to go in a sidebar widget (eg - php code)? Plus, when I drag a plugin to my sidebar widget I get a weird result. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I have an example on my site (http://www.wellnessindie.com). I used the "Get Recent Comments" plugin. This happens with any plugin I drag to the sidebar widget, however. Any idea why? Thanks.
