Default NavBar category drop down (like page drop down)

Hi

is there a way to insert the categorys to the top nav bar as a drop down?

In the metro theme, the pages are allready a dropdown if you have more pages than one.

I found here this little code snippet by craig:

<ul id="nav">
[*]Home
<?php wp_list_pages('title_li=&depth=4&sort_column=menu_ order'); ?>
[*]Categories
<ul><?php wp_list_categories('title_li=&depth=4&orderby=name '); ?>

But i tried to put this in the top nav bar and it won't work.

So, what to do, if a category drop down is needed? Is it possible?
