Prevent showing of sub category posts/content in parent category page

Prevent showing of sub category posts/content in parent category page

I have a parent category called "Councillors" with sub-categories "District 1" and "District 2", etc. When a user clicks on the Councillors category, all posts from the sub-categories are all displayed in my Councillors category page. I do not want the posts or content from my sub-categories (child) to be displaying in the main or parent category. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
