Getting 500 internal server error w/ any post upload

I've read tons of "helps" but am still a bit lost and am working w 2 fingers since I am recovering from 4 joints being replaced in my hand.

the last couple weeks an occasional post would give me the 500 error, but still upload and also create 1-2 drafts, which I'd delete. Images upload slow and/or give me the error too. I did a back up yesterday and then successfully uploaded latest version of WP hoping this would fix it, but still giving me problems.

I've read some to know it may have to do w/ htaccess file, but cannot find that on my server, and dont want to do anything to mess it all up worse.

Not sure here to go from here. I have a lot of plugins (that generally work fine and are all updated) so would prefer to try some easier fixes before messing with these.
