cannot add a new page to main navigation bar

Hi I have removed one of the pages that was on my main navigation bar and wanted to add a new one but since deleting the old one I have been unable to add any new pages to the menu bar. I am using the 'Exclude Pages' plugin and have the box ticked to "include this page in user menus" but nothing will show up. The site has been working well for months now and is very large so am I missing something?!
