Expand footer outside wrapper?

Used Brian's tutorial to create widgeted-footer (love it, thanks Brian), but am also looking for steps to get the footer section to appear at full page width, not just the 960px.

Tried a few things myself, modifying the css and the footer.php to break the footer out of the wrapper... not good! So any help appreciated to point me how to do that?

I'm guessing you guys know all the code, but if you need me to paste mine, let me know & I'll do that.
